Hao Shu’s calm centred self gives lie to his troubled earlier years. Over thirty years ago now he was a corrupt watchman in the city of Port Ryard. Bribes, extortion, even murder nothing was beyond Hao Shu in the service of his masters (as long as the pay was good). That is until Jessica came along. She changed everything. By standing up to certain darker elements within the city Jessica had put herself in the line of fire of Hao Shu’s masters. Ordered to kill her Hao Shu rebelled and did all he could to protect her. The last thing he remembers of that fateful night was a large moving shadow that struck him about the face with something metal. The last thing he saw before he passed out was Jessica being strangled to death by this same stranger. Most likely sent by Hao Shu’s masters (and Visha’s family). Hao Shu soon found himself in the secluded White Lotus monastery reflecting on what he had done.
While Hao Shu was in the monastery a visitor came (on of many of course but, something about this one struck Hao Shu as different). This visitor Jin was on a quest to cure the dying crops of his homeland and had come to the monastery seeking enlightenment. Hao Shu and Jin studied life, the universe, and everything together until Jin had an epiphany about spirits and Hao Shu has his own about the balance in all things.
Jin and Hao Shu set off from the monastery together but, soon went their separate ways. Hao Shu eventually running into a strange trio along the road. A minotaur named Telios that worshipped a human as a god, a man made entirely of metal, and a warrior woman who wielded two swords. They travelled together briefly and the minotaur and Telios spoke many volumes on faith and balance. Though they did not always agree there grew upon them both a feeling of mutual respect and a bond of friendship.
3×3x3 (rough edit)
Cook at the White Lotus Monastery. A friendship forged over dumplings and rice. A jovial, happy-go-lucky type, never seen without food in his hand, yet he maintains a lean almost thin figure.
A ‘fixer’ in Port Ryard, a Dwarf with his finger on the pulse of anything involving crime or money. Always moaning about being stuck in Ryard, needing the money to get back to his homeland but never seeming to get it together. Hao Shu used him frequently to get dirt on people and actually came to like the rather haughty, smug little bastard. One of the few people he would trust from his past.
Head of the White Lotus Monastery, a stern Shardmind who teaches that the universe is all connected, good and bad but this doesn’t mean there is no reason to strive for goodness and perfection as there is much in the world that isn’t. He is aware Hao Shu came here initially as a place to simply hide out and is still a little wary of him even this many years later, knowing a darkness lies beneath that aging ebony skin.

Elf Crime Boss of Port Ryard. ‘Mafia’ style family. Hao Shu was a corrupt cop on his payroll. Hao Shu knows far too much about him to let live but it has been some years now.
Rival at Monastery.
